Formerly known as the Bridge Street Theatre, the venue was reborn as The Phoenix Theatre in 2007 and is home to The Phoenix Theatre Company with accessibility by other performance/theatre groups. The space is a venue where creators can come together and develop performance based works in a supportive and nurturing environment.

The primary objectives for the Phoenix Theatre are to:

• Promote performing arts in the local area

• Provide performance and rehearsal venues for local professional and amateur/community theatrical groups

• Promote arts which are incidental to, or associated with, performance art

• Promote and provide education and training in performance art and associated professions

The manifesto and operational guidelines for the Phoenix Theatre are a product of extensive consultation with Wollongong City Council, our primary objectives, and an assessment of the needs of the local performance based arts community.

The Phoenix Theatre operates as an alternate to other performance spaces in more ways than simply its physical space.
